AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND THE NEW GENESIS
So what’s all the excitement about the new G2 technology? VAX-D has worked with several major motion control companies trying to achieve spinal decompression with programmable movement in the horizontal and vertical planes. Recently VAX-D teamed up with the engineers at Perry Automation, who have successfully implemented motion control systems in the Machine Tool, Factory Automation, and Theme Park industries. They have completed projects such as Theme Park ride control systems and safety systems, and the new 6-Axis FANUC Robot for NASA. Perry Automation specializes in areas requiring precision (micron/sub-micron) position control.
The resulting G2 technology allows the operator to program the equipment with an infinte number of curves for individual patient’s spines. The cervical and lumbar spine have inward (lordotic) and outward (kyphotic) curves.
Cervical: A System Like No Other
Traction tables that use a head rest (or cradle) that slides on a rail (or track), fix the head in a flat plane as tension is applied; and applying tension to the spine in a straightline fashion can be uncomfortable for many patients and may cause an instant muscle guarding reflex.
We discovered that many patients find that the head and neck needs to have some mobility (in the antero-postero plane) in order to be comfortable while tension is applied. This range of motion must be infinitely adjustable in flexion (neck flexed with head forward) and extension(neck flexed with head backward).
Communication with the patient during the first few G2 treatment sessions will determine the most comfortable settings for each patient.

Also current systems use head harnesses that can apply too much force to the jaw (Temporomandibular Joint /TMJ) or to the back of the head (Occiput). Patients receiving VAX-D cervical treatment are treated wearing a harness with an integrated supportive cervical collar. The collar is a critical part of the head neck harness that is designed to allow some mobility of the patient’s head and neck during distraction, while providing the total support of a 360° circumferential lift system.
What does this all ad up to? Total patient comfort while being treated. Patients can become pain free and so comfortable during the treatment that they actually fall asleep. We call it, being in the ‘zone’.
If you know someone that complains of chronic neck pain, make sure they check out the G2 experience!
